This question is regarding the ABAQUS/Explicit.
During the section assignment it has been observed that the software gives the option of "SHELL OFFSET" (see the attached image). it has several options in it.
What is the physical interpretation and importance of this "SHELL OFFSET" ?
In which case which one to choose and why? can any one help in this matter ?

as the name implies, it's offset from shell midplane. Shell theory is based on midplane representation for shell geometry. However, may times users wish to make the reference shell surface (the one that is defined by nodes, and you see in gui) away from the actual midplane. In that case, abaqus gives option of defining thickness and offset; i.e. how far away the reference surface is from shell midplane.
If offset is used, care should be taken as nodal loads or in-plane loads will become eccentric wrt to shell midplane and hence would create moment.
