I am working on alkaline activation of PMS(oxidant) for BPA degradation. instead of quenching the reaction, I have put the samples in the fridge to stop the reaction. This method was followed in the previous 4 studies. But the reviewer says this method was heterogeneous catalyst activation for PMS to stop the reaction while you are using homogenous catalyst activation. how to deal with this situation, any reference or guideline will be very helpful for me.
I think the reviewer would be right on this. Refrigeration is not enough to stop this kind of chemical reaction, but in the previous papers apparently seperation of the catalyst stopped the reaction and refrigeration was used to preserve the sample (Bisphenol A, the oxidation target). Perhaps you could destroy the permonosulfate (PMS) with an excess of sulfite.
