If your data is stored in a format with metadata like .tif, which is recommendable, anyway, since journals prefer micrographs to be submitted as tifs, you can directly load them with Gwyddion (http://gwyddion.net/) and cut out sections with identical sizes.

If it's a metadata-less format like bmp, Gwyddion can also handle that, but you'll have to enter the proper dimension manually.

Dear Sueden de Souza , if your images have a scale-bar you could also use them to adjust all of them by cropping or zooming where necessary.

Magnification in SEM, unlike TEM or optical microscopies, is not the best way to describe a image or a set of them.

Since these images are most likely digital, magnification is relative; it changes from screen to screen. For example, if you took the image on the microscope computer, that image does not have the same magnification if viewed on your laptop due to the changes in pixels, resolution, and even possibly file type.

The best way to compare images to use the scale bar and software such as ImageJ to apply them, as mentioned by Manuel Gómez.

File type is also critical. *.tif files are the the most common for saving images due to saving the data in uncompressed formats, which makes the files large. File types such as *.jpeg use cosine transformations to compress the data and makes nice small files; however, some data is inherently lost on each save and resave.

You can use Fiji (https://fiji.sc/); menu Image/Scale (Ctrl+E).

But changing magnification for images means rescaling, changing size of your images.

For example, you have one image at 1K X (1000 pixels by 1000 pixels) and one image at 2K X (1000 pixels by 1000 pixels).

If you want the 2K X image at the same magnification than the 1K X image, The final image will have the size of 500 pixels by 500 pixels). You lose 3/4 of the information because you only have 1/4 of 1000 pixels by 1000 pixels image.

If you want the 1K X image at the same magnification than the 2K X image, The final image will have the size of 2000 pixels by 2000 pixels). But you won't get more information neither the same sharpness than an original 2K X image.

The best is to put a scale bar on original images (with Fiji; menu Analyze/Set scale - may need manual image scaling if fiji can't find the µm or nm per pixel information coming from the microscope in the image metadata).
