You need to first find how much part of that liquid may get converted into vapour perhaps due to heat transfer.

.If you just want to hold the vapour in the container, find pressure taking the specific volume of vapour using ideal gas law.

Now design your container for that much pressure.

What you want to know is the vapor pressure of your liquid at any given temperature(although this only helps you if during transport your liquid is for some reason at a different temperature). The easiest way would be to find the vapor pressure at a reference temperature and/or pressure, and then use the clausius-clapyron equation to calculate the vapor pressure at different temperatures. If your liquid isn't something very uncommon you should be able to look up the vapor pressure at room temperature and/or pressure from a table, and then use the clausius-clapyron equation to calculate the vapor pressure at any other temperature(you just need the enthalpy of vaporization to use the clausius-clapyron, and this will also be available from a table).

I wouldn't be surprised if the container broke due to vibration and shaking during transport, rather than from the vapor pressure inside the container. If it was shaken hard enough to increase the vapor pressure, it probably would have been shaken hard enough to have shattered just from the forces shaking it.

If you mean how much vapor generated ,Undoubtedly you can do it and calculate the amount of vapor phase through two procedures: 1. CFD simulation 2. Thermodynamics equation of states for non-ideal gases and mixing with Antoine Equ.

Please note that:

1) Transition to vapor phase of any liquid kept in a container with initial room temperature (and say initial ambient pressure) needs temperature enhancement.  This requires heat transfer.

2) To know the saturation pressure of a fluid at any given temperature there is no way other than performing experiment. After doing experiments for the desired  temperature range you will be able to find the vapor pressure relation.

3) Also to know the change of specific volume due to phase change again you need to perform experiment at different constant saturation pressures.

4) After the above mentioned procedures you will be able to know the pressure at any container temperature as well as the amount of produced  vapor at such pressure when all of the liquid changes to vapor.

Ps: Please notice that when the temperature of the container (and its contents) rises up, the pressure of its fluid content rises up either. This is why your container was broken out.

You did not specify the type of liquid in the container and the material of the container. One possibility may be the liquid reacted chemically with the material of the container and generated a lot of vapour and reducing the wall thickness of the container which led to this accident.

To know the amount of vapor which is generated at a given pressure and temperature your proposal is right. But pls. notice that here the liquid is in a closed container, thus during the evaporation process the pressure as well as temperature do not remain constant .
