Is there a method to assess synergy between a water insoluble antimicrobial and a solvent which is used to bring it to aquous solution ? I am very familiar with the Checkerboard assay, but to run it I would need to assess the activity of each antimicrobial sepparately and then in combination with each other.
The problem with water insoluble antimicrobials is that you cannot estimate its activity on its own, since it is insoluble and requires a solvent such as DMSO to bring it the aquious solution. How can I estimate FIC index between the antimicrobial and the solvent? Is there a way to bypass the fact that the antimicrobial without the solvent cannot be tested? Thanks.
