I model and simulate the contact between two gear. I applied torque on one of the gears and I fix the other using fix displacement in Ansys. Automatic contact detects the contact between gears teeth. The contact type as default is bonded. However, it must be either frictionless or frictional.
By changing to frictionless the simulation become nonlinear.
Despite all of my attempt, the solver does not converge. I change many setting, however, I could not get result.
I get an successful result after refining mesh at the contact surface using one of the mesh tools called contact sizing. Hope you find my solution helpful.
In gear contact you will have a certain amount of friction in between the surface, So you can change contact type to frictional with some COF (0.15). Your analysis results will have a lesser deviation from practical results.
When you change contact from bonded to frictional check whether type of behavior has been changed to pure penalty and start with minimum COF (around 0.01) solve for the case. Then slowly raise the COF value .... to see convergence
