Can you please tell little bit about the model . where is the initial crack ?

Thank you very much for the reply. I have two materials, the inside has different properties (softer) than out side. So as I apply stress to the inside material, stress at the outside material increases, and an initial crack happens. The initial crack is at the outer material (the boundary between two), hope you get the idea, otherwise let me know I can explain. Also, let me know what do you think about sensitivity analysis.

(1) So crack is at the interface initially . this is perpendicular interface crack? (2) how are the strength properties (for inside material and outer material ) ? how do you apply load to inside material ?

I don't know the term interface perpendicular crack, but I am applying a prestress two the inner material and expecting crack to happen perpendicularly.

The young's modulus, Poisson's ratio for inner material is 0.81e9,0.3 and outer is 3.24e9,0.075.

I am defining xfem enriched area on the outside material only and giving prestress in the inside only.

The maximum principal stress criterion is 22e6 and the critical energy release rate in each direction are 2870 N/m.

Let me know please what do you think. How generally convergence analysis done in this kind of problem as we know if we change the mesh the crack propagation and initiation will be changed always, so we can not do convergence analysis in my opinion, but your expertise will be highly appreciated and I will be grateful
