For primary data collection you can do following methods: Develop structured questionnaire to compare general query on social Characteristics, land resources, forest products, forest management practices, etc. And select the sample design for the survey based on criteria such as time constraints and density of households Number of Households selected for the entire study from each category of Occupation of the Respondent.

Semi-structured Interview

This technique is considered to be the best tool for good PRA. This is an open Discussion with open-ended questions that can take place everywhere in the Community with groups. It can be done using mental or written checklists and thus is Also known as informal discussion.

 Identification and discussion with key Informants

Transect Walk

 the researcher can walk with few key informants in the study area observing, Analyzing, listening, identifying different zones, local technologies, and searching for the problems and solutions for the community.

Transect walk is helpful mainly in the study of land use pattern, distribution of private and natural forests.

Hi Muhammad,

If you truly want to be participatory, then you need the insight of the people from the beginning. Tell them your objective and discuss with those willing to help about how to conduct your diagnostic. They will tell you who to ask questions to and how to collect the data you need.

In the attached book, you'll find a great insight of how participatory methods work and 80 different techniques you can use!

You'll see that participatory techniques are not so new since they started developing in the 70's. Paulo Freire is considered one of its pioneer.
