I am trying to develop a gold nanoparticle based lateral flow sensor to detect a whole intact Virus. I have tried with 3 different antibodies of the virus. But, I was not successful.

Reading the literature, all scientific papers are mainly detecting the non structural protein of the Virus rather than the whole intact virus. Is it that the whole virus is tough to detect using lateral flow assay ? Why it is preferable to detect the non- structural protein ? What traditional measures need to be taken while trying to detect whole Virus ?

Thank you for your time and help
