I think mother can inculcate scientific attitude in her children than a teacher. Telling them scientific stories, biographies of great scientists, scientific truths behind the day today activities, natural phenomena etc. a child generally develops a good scientific attitude. Explaining them about the working and simple (fundamental) working principles of home appliances like television, radio, fridge in such a way that they can understand, will have an impact on them in developing scientific attitude. These things have a significant effect the mental and intellectual development level of the child.
A mother is the micro-environment or a niche for her kid- so she can transfer her outlook to her kid through traveling, visit to scientific places or taking her kids to the movies, but it is to be remembered that the BP of mother must not be high if her kid asks foolish questions, because then the scientific curiosity of the kid will curve.
Women have always played an important role as first educators for their children in inculcating values, behaviour, attitude and other social and mental abilities. It is perhaps looked at as responsibility which a woman has brought upon herself as part of motherhood. The woman is a symbol of respect and the key person who meets physical, emotional and intellectual needs of children. Mothers are more loving, kind, and patient and their kids are more attached to her that makes mothers more capable of educating and training their children in the most proper way.
Mothers can inculcate knowledge of scientific know how in their kids through the following:
1) provide a conducive environment for scientific learning e.g. access to the right reading materials & TV programs, moderated technological tools & Internet use to learn from the external world, right forums of exhibition & seminars exposure etc.
2) continuously evaluate her kid's scientific interests, strengths & weaknesses in order to perform activities that can build up the interests, strengths & rectify his or her weaknesses.
Beside the above 2, mothers need to instill other non-scientific teaching / learning e.g. character building, music, sport, teamwork activities and spiritual walk with God.
Children are very much influenced by the behaviour of their parents. If a mother demonstrated scientific knowledge with words (mentioning some of the famous events in science such as the discovery of electricity, electromagnetism, gravity, refraction of light by prisms, …) and actions (simple experiments such as hanging a prism in a window to catch and refract the morning sunlight, …), the children witnessing their mother's words and deeds will more than likely be influenced. The hope is that children witnessing a mother's knowledge of science will want to emulate what has been witnessed.
No doubt, mothers can have amazing influence on children's learning and psyche. They need to lead by example--by not believing in superstition, and by scientifically arguing with the kids comprehensively. It is important that fathers do not do anything contradictory for this to happen. Otherwise, it would be confusing to the children. Also, mothers should read scientific books. This would arouse curiosity in the kids. This would work still better if mothers control other behaviours of the child, including play time, TV, and the social media, etc.
The first teacher for a child is mother. By virtue of her potential for teaching general rules of life, she guides her child to know more about common life practices. There are a lot of principles, in our everyday life, which are based on general science, e.g. health care, food and nutrition, human behavior related topics etc. Hence there is automatic shift of knowledge related to science from a mother to her child.
Moreover, it is the duty of a mother to encourage her child for good practices those are beneficial for all members of family, by appraisal. She can share her knowledge about common science facts in real life by telling short stories to the children. She, herself can practice good habit so that her child can also learn a lot form those because a child always tries to copy parents.
Women are not only half of the society but they also bring up the other half. The role of the mother in any male or female child is of prime importance, generally speaking & mothers can inculcate constructive knowledge, attitudes, and values. My dear mother (who passed in 2002) was illiterate but she was great & has learnt a lot from the (university of life). She was honest, caring, kind, organized to nearly the point of perfection, and does any house work in an optimal manner. She taught my sisters, brothers, and me by her example. She used to tell me that knowledge is power & you cannot tackle the hardships of life effeciently without education. She was firm in her determination to see us all (7 persons) with university degrees & she attained that before she died. I do not underestimate the role of my father but my mother was the main director.
Mothers are the first teachers of values, good manners and ethics to their children. They are as well the ones 'if alphabetized' who follow the primary education cycle of their child . They could help their child by telling them stories from the life experience differentiating between the bad and the good values. I do not think that mothers ' who are scientists or researchers' conduct scientific experimental labs in their homes, those are more conscious of the limited mental ability of children for scientific questions and are conscious of the great ability of children to copy adults (generally children as good observers copy their parents in their manners, thinking, behaviors...) . So the better method is to explain to children the danger of the bad use of electricity, gas, TV, fridge etc.. may be with little experiences who hurts them and make them understand to be safe. For children with high IQ, specialized schools or nursery schools are more efficient and may be mandatory for their monitoring
the home is no university or researching institute. But kids can learn besides the situations you mentioned the social components by being instructed and guided in their family.
Sure dear Hanno, that kids as good observers and great curious could learn many things (good and bad) from their social milieu. In unfavorable milieu they could be used or guided by some of their family members or neighbors for bad things, for example many times children were used as connection tool between drogue dealers. So parents should first be role model for their kids to be able of instructing them moral values and good manners. If parents haven't good manners or good morality, they couldn't learn to their kids to be good, human, intelligent etc.. Education is not only by words or by physical violence, but by example
