Training is the act of providing information and instruction to someone. It is the act of teaching and or developing skills, knowledge, etc. in a student. The purpose of training is to improve one's capability, capacity, productivity and performance. Many trades, occupations or professions, require basic initial training.
Workshops, on the other hand, are like training events, in which the basic information is provided. Workshops are basically conference room meetings that allow the facilitation of training. Workshops can be used to create or generate plans, analysis, or design that supports the employees and/or the organization. A workshop allows the users to share ideas and help each other facilitate new ideas that can be beneficial to all.
WORKSHOP: Refers to a seminar, discussion group, or the like, that emphasizes exchange of ideas and the demonstration and application of techniques, skills, etc. It emphasizes problem-solving, hands-on training, and requires the involvement of the participants.
TRAINING: Refers to the acquisition of knowledge, skills, and competencies as a result of the teaching of vocational or practical skills and knowledge that relates to specific useful skills.
Workshop help participants to hands on experience ,to discover share experiences to achieve together. Workshop encourage the learning ,thinking and creativity.
Training means to train people to perform in the desired direction as we train Lion for circus. There is no space for thinking and creativity

In my opinion, websites don't distinguish between workshop & training clearly and they almost represent them as 2 faces of the same coin. I like to differentiate between them on the basis of what we experienced here. Staff or students go to a center in the university to be trained to use a sophisticated equipment (e.g. HPLC) & the trainer is paid from the money collected from the trainees.
Before a scientific exhibition, the students & one or two of the experienced staff participate in workshops in which all contribute but the students gain more in knowledge sharing. The university pays the cost of required materials & tools and , at the end of the exhibition, each participant gets just a certificate.
Training is defined as a skill-building program that aims to help groups and individuals to master specific skills and learn new and more effective work habits. These programs are typically undertaken as a means to improve employee efficiency for the long-term success of a company and its projects.
Workshops are commonly held as a means to introduce individuals or groups to specific concepts or skill sets. Workshops are actually only one aspect of training, also they are intended to enable people to master specific skills in only one session, as opposed to a full training program, wild card will usually require several sessions.
Basically both are related; you're conducting a workshop to provide training .. bu the use it depends on many factors including but not limited for (number of attendees, cognitive or psycho-motor, mode of delivery)
