What is traditional is that a journal produces 1 volume in a year with: 12 issues if it is a monthly journal.
3 issues if it is a quarterly published journal
2 issues if biannually published
Few journals I have seen to produce more then 1 volume in a year is there any rule for this ?
if any body has some documented reference kindly share .
Ashique - Elango is correct. There is correct. 'New' journals tend to start off tentatively - which usually mean 4-6 journals per year (it can be slightly less). Some very good journals maintain this schedule as it allows them to carefully scrutinise 'what they want' and not deviate to the seemingful successful journal model of producing many articles in a single edition - and always the same. .
A good journal produces only limited number of article in an edition and maintains it.
I disagree with Mr.Chalise. Because, in the age of open access, the number and page of articles are not limited. And some reputed journals publishes more than 1000 articles in a year. For example, the following journals having high impact factor (> 10) and published more than 1000 articles.

Dear fellows it is not a matter of number of article the discussion is about the number of volumes.It is like as under
Volume (Issue) Say for
7(1) means volume number 7 and its issue is 1 in January
7(2) means volume number 7 and its issue is 2 in February
7(3) means volume number 7 and its issue is 3 in March
so on and so forth till December end up with 7(12)for a monthly journal
But the same will be as under for quarterly journal
7(1) mean 7th volume and issue number 1 from january-march
7(2)mean 7th volume and issue number 2 from April-June
7(3) =============================3 from July-September
7(4) =============================4 from October-December
Both type of journals will change their volume number to 8 in next year as
8(1)
8(2)
8(3) so on
Few journals change their volume number in the same year what is their justification for doing so? any rule ?
