I need to do a calibration line of 4-nonylphenol in methanol with a HPLC-MS. The main problem is the lowest detection limit that I obtained was very high (around 0,1 ppm), so is impossible to use this technique for detect this contaminant in my samples.

The method used was:

- Mobile phase: water (A) + methanol (B)

- Flow rate: 0,4 mL/min

- Gradient: started with a 60% of A and 40% of B and was increased to 100% of B in 8 minutes. These conditions was maintained during 2 minutes.

Is possible to detect lower concentrations with another method? Is necessary make a previous preparation of the samples (ex: pass through a cartridge the sample, adjust the pH, add another component...) in order to improve de detection limit of the equipment?
