I was wondering if I should use oxygenated Kreb's solution to store my dissected rat's sciatic nerve before my experiments and also how long can they survive in that? (by survive I mean giving a decent action potential)

Krebs-Ringer solution mimics extracellular fluid quite well so I think it should work for you. We have used it for 30+ years with mouse muscle in vitro preparations. Tissue viability is best maintained with cooler Krebs, the colder the better. Cooler temperature slows the metabolic rate, which is important because in an in vitro prep, the tissue depends on O2 diffusion from the periphery of the tissue to its core as opposed to being delivered via blood vessels. If I were you, I would keep your excised nerve in ice-cold, oxygenated Krebs until you need it for your experiment. It will warm rapidly when you switch to 37 oC (or whatever) Krebs.
