Countries implementing the EITI can become EITI Candidate Countries when the EITI Board is confident that the country has made a political commitment and has taken a number of preparatory steps. Such EITI candidate countries should further implement the EITI process in their country and complete the Validation within the next two years in order to obtain the status of “EITI Compliant Country”.

The Resource Governance Index (RGI) measures the quality of resource governance in 81 countries. One hundred and forty-nine questions were asked for each assessment and for each question researchers compiled source documents as verification. The result of this is the RGI Source Library, a repository of 9,255 supporting documents which serve as documentation of the answers that led to the index scores.
