I was trying to understand how SYBR green fluorescent signal chnages when it binds to the DNA? Does binding to the DNA make any conformational change to it that causes the change in fluorescence, or is there something else?
Would appreciate any suggestions.

The mechanism of quenching tagged TICT for Twist Intramolecular Charge Transfer state has been extensively discussed in the 1990 decade as summarized in :

The opening and rotation of a double bound is favored in the excited state ; in particular when a charge transfer from one side of the double bound to the other side is possible. Most of the time, this charge transfer state is non-fluorescent. This explains the behavior of many probes of the local free volume around the probe.

Visnu Chowdhury you may opt for emission anisotropy measurements, steady state as well as time resolved. This can give you an insight into conformational changes, if occurs
