Curing of cement mortar under Tap water (TW) had higher impact on the performance enhancement of control cement mortar (CM) compared with those cuing under normal carbonation (NC) and accelerated carbonation (AC). ACcured- CM containing 10 wt% MgOs gave the physico-mechanical properties superior to control CM cured at the same condition, reflecting the positive impact of MgOs on the performance of CM. A detrimental effect of MgOs on the properties of CM was observed under TW-curing.
The research indicates that addition of certain percentage of MgO in cement mortar is useful in certain situations of curing. However, addition of MgO may affect shrinkage properties of cement mortar. During carbonation process, carbolic acid get consumed in reacting MgO hence less effect on cement gel.
