Yes please, I absolutely agree with your information / dissemination issue. Recently I had some information on relevant scientific conferences, and I would like to invite also scientists interested in co-authorships; but it is not so clear if communications like this could infring the RG's netiquette. One could open a "Project", but it is an improper solution as well.

We are normally subscribed to some of the conferences that we attend on a regular basis. Also the professional societies where we are members make it a point to communicate the conference notices. There are some listserv memberships where people post the conference notices. Also there are some conference alert services (http://www.conferencealerts.com/topic-listing?topic=Manufacturing) that will also inform you about them.

Certainly it could be a good service for Researchgate to involve it to serve as a platform to serve these notices. The only problem I see is that they should have a proper classification and search system in view of the large range of disciplines that will be covered.

the information comes today mainly via E-MAIL. On the other hand, Universities and Organizations where I (we ) have relations with, do send printed materials.

Another sourse (more seldom used) are weekly or monthy Journals, telling us about scientific news and company developments, and do advertizments for conferences.

RG would need an special new "Chapter" for this, I think.

Mostly I receive email notifications from the organizers.

Especially if we are a member of an organization, they will definitely send you alerts and notifications. Some organizations for eg. Elsevier send notifications about all their conferences to all those who served as a corresponding authors and reviewers of any Elsevier journal.

The other possibility is by word of mouth from friends and colleagues.

If we are really engaged in the field, it is really hard to miss the notifications.

Or if you do not have any information and you want to know, Google will also help you to get in to.

I t would also appreciable if RG can have such a platform in addition.

Interesting question sir. I guess when one becomes accustomed with a particular field of enquiry, one gets to know the key players through ones readings of journal papers and relevant literature, and then other information starts to accumulate. Information within a given research community will eventually find its way to you. But of course being an active participant in certain research platforms such as Researchgate helps as well.

Our team is usually informed via e-mail by the conference organizers, members of the various conference committees, and colleagues that may attend the conference at hand. Rarely, we are getting informed by the pertinent journal services on the upcoming events. In my opinion, colleagues are the best informers since some extra motivation is introduced.

Scientific conferences are essential parts of a scientific community to share results and generate new insights to solve outstanding problems. In order such activities to take place announcements have to be made and usually it is done through e-mails from organizers. It seems RG is also a more conducive place for that task, provided the invitees are members of this site.

In my field, most important Meetings are comunicated by mail. On the other hand, about 15-20 times in the year, I am invited as a speaker or chairman. And even when I am considred as an expert of the Meeting topic, I have the opportunity to learn new concepts or discuss controversial points with reaserchers with a large expertise. In consideration that there is a limitation for the days i can be in these Meeetings, it reamins very poor time to follow other interesting opportunities for increase our knowledge. So I may help myself by Internet and some dedicated sites such as Pub Med or Scopus; in this field RG is an extraordinary resouce for a free and continuous update.

This question -as usual - not only interesting but also a question I wanted to post some time ago.....

But as I have seen an information in one LINK to a ResearchGate’s subURL (which I do not remember for now) where it was defined:

“RG will NOT allow postings of Conference Announcements” I did not post the question.

I thought I have read this in Terms&Conditions (see:

If I find this statement again I will post it for sure.

As of replying to the question I can say (at the end of my professional career): information on Conferences, Meetings and Symposia were received (no claims for /not deserving completeness):

mainly e-mails, and per Website access as

member of several Societies and their mailing lists,

from University Mail Lists, Companies (firms, also diverse commercial Congress Organisations) or other relevant scientific institutions, or last but not least,

from other colleagues (minimal).

Usually I get conference announcement from my teachers and my friends. The board of my department is also helpful.

If you are working either in universities or research institutions all members get information through circulars or mails. They display in all notice broads too. By chance your institute is organizing they allot duties for all staff members. So we would be busy from the beginning (right from organization of everything). I feel the same either in India or the countries where I visited too. In case you are registered you have to prepare for talk or poster what ever you have opted.

Mostly e mails give information about research gatherings. By post invitation cards arrive and these are posted on the college notice board. Calls are also received regarding the information, though not very frequently.

Dear Ljubomir, Iget the information from various sources, combined or in parallel.

On the one hand, in my school, the office of international relations gathers as much information as possible regarding the various conferences, seminars and the like. Most times, we all here plan our paper with time enough thnaks to this service.

As mentioned, once you participate in a couple of conferences you keep receiving periodical information about when and where next conferences will take place.

As a matter of fact, thirdly, many conferences are organized by or centered companies or assocations. Three examples are the conferences on various subjects organized by EAI wevents, or those by IEEE, or also those by the system EDAS...

I agree on the opportunity via RG of opening up a link with:

a) Calls for papers

b) Confrences to-come

@Wolfgang, I have noticed it in past few hours! I do use Google Chrome! I do think it is a bug in RG! 24 instead of 37 answers!

and, I am for the conference board on RG. Some local conferences could be valuable, but there is very limited information about, say, Serbia, Moldova, or China, and Russia.
