Medical Laboratories have assessments to ISO 15189 and there is also ISO 17025 for testing and calibration labs. Both involve a quality management professional system, staff competency and a laboratory director, standard operatory procedures, assay validation and verification for the intended purpose, third party internal quality control, external quality assessment and assurance, and so forth.
That is a very good and important question currently. The primary goal is to make scientific research reproducible and if it is not find out why not(eg because of fraud, new science, blunders in the original work or what have you.). Quality assurance (definition from ISO 9000: 2015):
Part of quality management focused on providing confidence that quality requirements will be met.
There is only one KPI for research quality; its result should be reproducible under same conditions in which it is done.

This goes beyond the same conditions - using inappropriate conditions in another lab and getting the same results does not mean that the results are correct.
Your interesting question reminds me of these Pascal's thoughts: "Man knows that he is wretched. He is wretched because he knows it. Yet in this he is evidently great, that he knows himself to be wtretched. If he boasts, I lower him; if he lowers himself, I raise him; either way I contradict him, till he learns that he is a monstrous incomprehensible mystery".

How do researchers assure their quality?
By fullfilling all demands given by either ISO15189 (or rather similar ISO17025 for non-medical labs) and showing this by accreditation.
