How do i polish the cut side of a carbon fiber test piece(its cross section) in preparation for the cross section to be inspected by microscopes?

I am fabricating carbon fiber blocks by Vacuum Assisted Resin Transfer Moulding(VARTM) to attain test piece by cutting the block with a water-jet cutter. Most study shows that they polish the cross section in preparation for the inspection by microscopes and microscopy. How do I do the polish process?
