Dear all,
I simulate an indentation process in Abaqus 2017. The model is two dimensional, elastic-plastic and the process is force-controlled.
During and after the experiments one can see a pill-up of material (see graphic). In the simulation I can not generate such a behaviour. Instead of conserving the volume with a pile-up of material it seems like only displacement occures.
How can I generate such a pile-up in the simulations? I am thankful for any hint.

What boundary conditions are applied to the indented body? And what type of contact interaction have you defined?
Maybe there is no enough friction to generate the pile-up. As Luca Di Stasio mentioned, I guess it is about the contact definition.

The sample, how I call it, is fixed on the bottom and symmetric on the left side, means U1 and UR3 are 0.
I use surface-to-surface contact. I tried applying different values for friction, but it does not change the solution.
One reason could be that the material is not ductile enough for a pill-up. If the material is brittle enough, my result could actually be reached.
