I am using different sulphur precursors in an alkaline medium for chalcogenide synthesis and at the end of the reaction i got decants with different pH values. How these precursors change the pH values?
Precursors used: Sodium thiosulphate, thiourea and elemental sulphur.
pH value generally has been studied as a cause and not the effect itself. e.g. It is well known that pH of preparation solution has significant effect on morphology, size, surface area , luminescence properties etc.
And I have come to know from RG that in colloid solution preparation, the stability is a principal parameter that influences the pH change.
Further, the processes protonation/deprotonation and oxidation/reduction need to be looked at when using any of the precursors. Because it will depend both on the formation of the intermediate products and type of the precursor chosen.
