I want to mix a certain chemical with an oil, however I do not know if it will be viable after it comes in contact with the oil. Can someone tell me how to determine a chemicals stability in the presence of an oil?
How do you define "stability"? Which compounds do you mix with the oil? Could it be oxidized, hydrolysed...? In general, oil is a kind of non-defined specification. Compounds could react with unsaturated fatty acids for instance. Please define the oil mixture and compounds you want to add in detail. If the compounds are water soluable, they will not mix with oil or get in contact with it/phase separation occurs. You'll may need surfactants for that.
It depends on the specific types of the chemical & the oil. A chemical may be an element or a compound (organic, inorganic, organometallic). An oil may be a mineral oil or a vegetable oil or a polymeric oil or an adulterated oil. Therefore, the stability is studied on a case versus case basis.
