I tried to prepare carboxylated graphene oxide by using the method in attached papers. However, from FTIR analysis, the peak of C=O group decreased and the peak of C=C increased dramatically (like in the first paper), indicating that graphene oxide was probably reduced. Besides, in other paper (second paper), the method to prepare is similar but the peak of of -C=O in this case increased significantly. Can you share your experience about this? Is there any step I need to care about?
Graphene oxide surface contains -OH group thus dehydration of your carboxylate upon interaction with the grapheme surface leads to the attachment of the carboxylate group to the surface as grapheme-O-C(=O)-R. In this case I suggest that you scan a baseline using graphene oxide and then scan the modified grapheme-carboxulate surface. The only other possibility is that the carboxylate is binding to the surface as bidentate through h2-O,O-C-. In this case you will have grapheme-h2(O,O)C-R. You should be able to detect that easily from the ir.
