In complex biological media, many biomolecules can have the affinity to bind with the nanoparticles' surface but when it comes to selectivity, it becomes difficult to control the selective binding of the biomolecule of interest with the nanoparticles' surface. How can we improve this selectivity?
Please help me with some references also.
It depends on which biomolecule you are interested in. There is no general answer unfortunatly. You could bind certain peptides to you nanoparticles and go for antibodies, or you immobilize complement DNA strands, sugars or lectins.
Besides selectivity given by a ligand on the nanoparticles it is also very important to supress unspecific adhesion of biomolecules onto the particle surface. For this polymer coatings are promising.
For a start I would not go for complex biological media, but use artificial biological media with selected biomolecules, so defining the bound biomolecule becomes easier. You could even go for biotin-streptavidin interactions, which is very selective and a good proof of concept.
