Hello. In my reference article, polyethylene imine (PEI-CAS No.: 9002-98-6) with a molecular weight of 100 kDa is used to functionalize mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSN). My challenge right now is that I only have access to 60 kDa polyethyleneimine (PEI MN 60000, 50 wt aqua solution).
I need to use 100 µL of a 75 mg/mL solution of 10 kDa polyethyleneimine. If I use polyethylene imine with a weight of 60 kDa, what concentration of solution should I make?

Zahra Damirchi Simply sufficient for monolayer coverage. You‘ll need a knowledge of the SSA of the silica material (BET) or a particle size distribution.

Zahra Damirchi All the change from 100kDa to 60kDa should do is reduce the thickness of the polymer chain on the outside of the particle. It’s this PEG that acts as a steric stabilizer in the situation. If your 100 kDa PEG was in correct concentration to ensure a monolayer coverage, then you should be able to use the same concentration for the 60kDa material. What is the SSA of the silica?
