When selecting a journal for publication, I usually refer to a list maintained by the Polish Ministry for Science and Culture. It contains around 12.000 journals. All journals are ranked mainly based on their impact factor. The top 2% journals in an area got 50 points, the next up to top 5% got 45 points, etc., and the lowest journals got 15 points. Is this the first time submitting those papers? or has it been rejected before. My personal experience, the paper gets harder to be accepted either the more interdisciplinary it is or way too new to the current world regardless to any journal you choose.

When it's totally or extremely interdisciplinary then you won't be able to find an adequate journal covering your fields and it will get even harder to find one with a satisfying impact factor. When it's really new, too new for the world, then it really doesn't make any difference which journal you submit because the chances are, you'll get rejected. It's not the journal that holds the key for a successful publication, it's who reviews it. This, you don't have control of.  If you still want it to be published, then you're going to have to down grade your impact factors in demand and modify your paper so that it could be read like it belongs to an existing categorization. Whether it's your paper or the varieties disciplines out there, one of them doesn't fit the current time.

If you understand that Maarten@'s answer is quite informative but you still can't choose one, then your problem is not the lack of information or experience about which journal to submit it to, you lack the courage. You go and ask 10 people which journal to submit to. You'll get 10 answers plus a still stirred up mind of your own.  You're just going to have to pick one. Nothing starts without it.

a lot of people do not make the jump to publishing. i know a lot of great minds that solve the problem and then move on to the next problem without reporting the outcomes.

I think this is especially true for consultants. if it is not paid for on your per day rate then why would you do the extra work?

BUT you have to be in it to win it and I would encourage submitting your work to the best journals in the discipline first. It often correlates with the better reviewers who will provide you with better feedback. Every publication will find a home.!

I think you already got some valuable inputs, so I would not go over these again.

Since this is for me a very interesting topic (I started working in industry and only after several years decided to try and publish as an academic and researcher in scientific journals) I would add the following insights:

- There are journals that are more quantitative while others are more qualitative. The same with filed scope and breath. Within the same field, there are journals that will not publish unless I apply SEM (Structural equation Modelling) while on the very same field, there are other journals (also SCOPUS indexed) where the reviewers advise me not to present a paper with a  simple correlation analysis since most readers would not understand it.

- The time you are willing to wait is also another issue to consider. I had papers waiting for 2 years while others for 2 months. Many journals have a 1 year waiting time. So I suggest you try to find out the acceptance rate and the flow time of your target  journals .

- Be careful with English language and formatting, many times this one of the main reason for not acceptance.

- Last but not least you might think to have another more experienced researcher as coauthor that could advise you and increase the chances of the papers acceptance.

same subject matter), prefaced by respectfull letter to the Editor, and with the right

choose a journal befitting your topic, check the impact factor and complete the formalities. it is not as difficult as it seems, though getting your paper selected requires good content, good grammar and proper format.
