For particulate (particle or grain) composites or we say random (distribution) composites, you should have geometric models of their microstructures and their meshes. In my opinion, the commercial software hardly generate the meshes for random structures.

If you consider the multiscale problem (from micro to nano), so homogenization method could be a reference. If the microstructure won't be changed during the whole simulation, you could first calculate the homogenized parameters by the unit cell of microstructure, then simulate the vibration damping properties of the homogenized structure.

Your idea seems to be interesting.

However I came across an article where meshing of a non homogenised nano composite was done using Hyperworks. I'll first try to work on that lead, let's see how that works out!

Also the link that you have sent seems interesting, it should be useful in a different project I'm planning.
