In order to prepare an experimental design of wear test, I would like to find the optimum value or the range in which wear testing parameters are chosen. The test material is an aluminum metal matrix composite. Please provide the supporting journal or material.
There is an ASTM standard, ASTM G99-95 for pin-on disc wear test..
At both constant load and speed, which preferentially should be the closest actual practice conditions, you can optimize the wear test by assessing weight loss in function of sliding distance.

I suggest the Response Surface Methodology for your investigation. You cah use different experimental design in this regard, too. Using these method, you will be able to predict and optimize your process with a considerable accuracy.
Your testing parameters need to be as close as possible to the actual physical conditions you are designing the materials for. Then you can change one parameter at a time to investigate how a given parameter affects the others.
