Dear all, I am attaching a screenshot from SPSS. I want to recode the highlighted variable in a new variable so that the responses that contain 9 would be assigned 1 and responses that do not contain 9 would be assigned 0. Is something like this possible? I appreciate your help!

I hope you are doing well! I noticed a problem in the screenshot you posted that will make recoding this variable automatically not possible. The commas in between your numbers in the variable will make it not possible to use the recode function, as SPSS thinks these data are letters/strings and not numbers (as indicated by the "a" in the variable name). You can change this issue by switching to variable view selecting the type and changing it to numeric, however, doing this will erase your data. Unfortunately, the only way to recode these data as presented is to do it manually.
