I'm analyzing Madis products (MCD64A1), when I finish my analysis, I have a 2400X2400 matrix that I want to draw, but since the original image was in sine design, when using From imagesc, draws the image in a distorted way. I want to convert the image to geographical coordinates before drawing it. How can this be done?
The lat/lon grid can be computed from the sinusoidal grid using the inverse mapping described in the appendix B of MCD64A1 (https://modis-land.gsfc.nasa.gov/pdf/MODIS_C6_BA_User_Guide_1.0.pdf). An online tool is also provided by the MODIS team to do the same. It can be accessed from the following website.

The horizontal and vertical tile numbers are needed. Ex: For the file MCD64A1.A2000306.h00v08.006.2017012010918.hdf, the horizontal tile number is 0 (h00v08) and the vertical tile number is 8 (h00v08).

To make the calculations simple use HDF-EOS2 dumper application given in the website https://www.hdfeos.org/software/eosdump.php
When I had to use the MODIS fire product, I remember evaluating the latlon of every file using this application and saving it separately in a text file.
The command is very simple in linux.
For latitude
eos2dump -c1 MOD14A1.A2000297.h00v08.006.2015043112358.hdf > lat_h00v08.out
For longitude
~/eos2dump -c2 MOD14A1.A2000297.h00v08.006.2015043112358.hdf > lon_h00v08.out
If you have a linux system, you can run a shell script looping through all the files and saving the output as a text file. Or you can call the script within matlab using the matlab function "system( command )". I have no idea how it works for windows. It also has the functionality of converting the data to different projection but I don't see the need of doing it if you just need to extract the lat/lon of any value.
