How Can I obtain precipitate?

I dissolved citric acid in a mixture of DMF and ethanol solvents during the solvothermal method to prepare graphene quantum dots, but I could not obtain a precipitate from it. Is it effective to use diethyl ether or ethanol as an anti-solvent and then centrifuge the sample to obtain a precipitate?
