Sudan is a country where consanguinous marriage is very common. Recently the country was divided in to two countries, so we do not have a recent population number. Many disease associated with different patter of inheritance are common.
I would like to meaure the percentage of consangunity in the country. That is why I am looking for biostatistic or epidemiology or statistical method with which I can answer the question of what is the percentage of the consanguinity in Sudan.
You can not measure consanguinity having no data at all. Please, describe what data related to marriages and population you have.
By the way, what do you want to do: to estimate consanguinity using pre-existing data or to plan a prospective field-study?

We have also a high rate of consanguineous marriages in Turkey. Our rate is around 30% and this has been measured by a clinician. I dont know how they did it but the author for that reference paper is a geneticist: Pro Ergul Tuncbilek and his e-mail adress is [email protected].

A huge amount of work in early population genetics (around the 1930s) was focused on exactly this problem! The tool you are looking for might be 'F-statistics', and the related concept of the 'probability of identity by descent'. Hello Mona Ellaithi, It is very easy to estimate the prevalence of consanguinity (inbreeding) in a population. You have to draw the pedigrees of the families and ask couples about the background relation (such as "first cousins," "second cousins", "double first cousins-in which husband and wife parents were cousins in relation", "uncle niece marriage").
