I often ask for serum insulin tests with PCOS patients and too often vials are not immediately put on ice. I have read this compromises the test and leads to negative results. How much of an issue is this and how often does lack of icing compromise studies that look at insulin levels and function?
Commercially available radioimmunoassay (RIA) kits are the best method for measuring serum insulin levels.
