I am currently working on a vibration based monitoring system project. I am using a sensing unit composing of accelerometer (ADXL345), microcontroller and zigbee pro. The idea is I will deploy them on different locations inside a structure to monitor its vibrational response. The response will be shown in a server powered by raspberry pi.
The aim of the project is to display Acceleration, Velocity measurement, frequency response, displacement measurement and Peak Particle Velocity. By doing that the acceleration data from accelerometer should be integrated right? But other says that it is not good to just integrate those because it will give an inaccurate data. So as solution, I can use GPS sensor incorporated with accelerometer to get a better result.
May I know how can I incorporate those two and how am I able to get the measurements needed from those?

From the principle point of view we have:
the velocity v= integral a dt ,
where a the acceleration and t is the time, if we perform the integartion we get v= v0 + at,
with v0 is the initial velocity which the velocity at the initial time t0,
So, if v0 is not known you can no determine an absolute value for the velocity . You can calculate only the change in the velocity (at) by the integration.
So you need other source of information to determine v0,
This may be accomplished by knowing the movement distance by the GPS.
Integrating the velocity once again, one gets the motion distance x relative to an initial reference point.
x = Integral v dt over time t.
So, knowing x for t one can determine v0.
Accordingly one can use the GPS to determine the initial velocity of the object. In addition It can be sued to verify the estimated distance x resulting from double integration process.

You can find a wealth of literature for the application of arduino for Accelerometer and Acquiring the GPS signal. Once you acquired the two signals a(t) for acceleration and P(T) for the GPS, where P is the position with time you can program the arduino to calculate the speed v and the position p (t) and you can check if P(T)== P(t).
