We use a chemagen robot for genomic DNA extraction from whole blood samples. We have a colection of blood samples from covid-19 positive patients. We would like to inactivate the virus before introduce the samples into the chemagen equipment.

Nerea Martinez Magunacelaya I think you need to have proper personal protective equipment (PPE) on, such as specific coat, masks, gloves (probably 2 layers), and facial shield, before you can do any experiment to do with SARS-Cov-2.
I am worried about the 'inactivation' process might lower the quality of the isolated genome (RNA)!? RNA can be easily degraded.

Is your lab licensed to handle human infectious samples (probably BSL 3, although I'm no expert on this)? If so, there must be a biological safety officer, with whom you should (as in "must") discuss such questions. If not, work with these samples should be deferred until licensing has been obtained, or be done in collaboration with a licensed lab.
Working with human pathogenic viruses, against which neither vaccine nor pharmaceutical exist, without a license is a BSL 5 proposal: The PI gets autoclaved for suggesting it ;-)

Bita Jamshidi UV spectrum includes UV-A, -B and -C. UV with wave-length at 254 nm is UV-C. Artificial UV-C lamp is used to destroy virus. The high energy ultraviolet light (UV-C) at 254 nm might induce mutation for the virus sequence!? Which can cause precision problem of sequencing results.
UV does not penetrate vials and tubes. I know because I tried many times.
You have to collaborate with a certified BSL3 lab. All collected human samples should go to this BSL3 lab and inactivated with the heat. After inactivation, samples should be retested for any residual viable virus on susceptible cells such as VeroE6 cells. After confirming all samples are totally inactivated, samples can be transported and RNA extraction can be done at BSL2 lab.
