I have the reference SNP (rs) of some SNPs, how can I search to know the exact location of these SNPs on the gene?
For example what is the exact location of the SNP with ID rs17716499? does it lie on the exon, on the promoter or on an other region of DIO3 gene?
Suzanne Jubair go to ncbi, select SNP database next to the search box. Enter the rs snp ID and the location will be shown in the snp hit page. Whether it is intronic, exonic, 5' or 3' or intergenic. For example the snp you listed is an intron variant on chromosome 14 in an identified locus and at exact genomic location g.101566903T>C based on human genome build 38.
To add to Rabeah's answer, using Ensembl you can also enter your variant id and the Bp position will be immediately displayed. Using 'Genomic Context ' or the browser when you click on 'Location' will give you further info.
If you want to do it less interactively and with multiple ids you could think about querying the ensembl sql database using BioMart.

Just search genomic coordinates, put in ensembl, you should be able to retrieve the information. There are several tracks for SNPs too, and you may find this SNP there also.
