I am trying to design the acousto-optic Modulator using Comsol Multiphysics. based on photoelasticity .I am studying the interactions between sound waves and light waves in crystal. That you can simulate the interaction of acoustic mode only or the light mode only but the problem how to combine the two mode in a crystal using the COMSOL. If any paper on detail of designing this Modulator then please inform me.
You can analyze the acousto-optics interaction using a few expressions developed by early authors ( Korpel, A. for example). It is important obtain diffraction efficiency as a function of rf power ( acoustic power, after transducer) and frequency , effective photo elastic constant, transducer length. After that you can try use a MATLAB routine to plot the results. I think it will help you to select a software and understand how to manage some parameters input.

Hi. As far as I know, there is no support of acousto-optic devices in comsol yet. Straightforward approach - to simulate acoustic field, calculate modulation of dielectric constant and simulate light propagation in such optically ununiform media is too resource consuming task for contemporary computers. There are a lot of particular geometries that you can analyse using theories of Korpel and Parygin, and these formulas can be in comsol module "acousto-optics". But there is no such module nowadays. There is no possibility in Comsol even to calculate structure of acoustic field in an anisotropic material with given boundary conditions.
