After their culture, the cyanobacteria reacted with Bennett Media to produce their compounds into the supernatant preserved after centrifuge. They form a homogeneous mixture for more than one month. Today I observed like a clusters inside the mixture.
I hesitated if these clusters are the compounds but aggregated or a contamination. I used many methods to dissolve these clusters as vortex, centrifuge, sonicator and adding DMSO. But no method succeeds. I need a homogeneous solution to have proper concentrations for some tests as cell culture.
I'll appreciate any help to dissolve these compounds again.
You gave us very scarce information about the type of cyanobacteria and the type of 'compounds' they produce. Benett medium is not something cyanobacteria would usually grow in, but you probably follow a procedure someone has developed and it worked. Did you check under the microscope what the 'clusters' look like. I would do this first to see whether it is a microbial contamination or not. In the case it is, it would probably soon be overgrown with cells anyhow. In the case it is an aggregate, it could be many things, depending on what you try to produce. For example released DNA could form a mesh in which cells/debris could get stuck. This would be hard to get rid of unless you use a sonicator (you said you did) or add DNase. If it is EPS material, you might break it using glass beads. Maybe we could be more helpful if you provide us with some background of your experiment and eventually a photograph of the 'clusters'.
