I use a VUMAT subroutine for modeling a fiber reinforced composite machining (Hashin failure criteria-attachment file). I really appreciate any help you can provide about user material definition.
I defined the material elasticity (with engineering constants of the material) and density. How can I define properties of damage model (Strength of the material in tension and compression and ... ) ? should I use the " user material" in Edit Material box?

when I use a "user material" (as a VUMAT subroutine for Abaqus/Explicit) I include these lines in the .inp (I usually work directly from editor not from Abaqus CAE):
*MATERIAL,NAME=my_material
*DENSITY
value_of_density,
*USER MATERIAL, CONSTANTS=number_of_constants_in _VUMAT
constant_1, constant_2, constant_3
where "my-material" is the name of the material you want do define and all the constants you need, as input for your VUMAT, are listed under the keyword *USER MATERIAL, CONSTANTS=number_of_constants_in _VUMAT. These constants will then be used inside your VUMAT subroutine (my_vumat.f as instance) for all the calculation you need for your damage model.
