Hi,
I am working on a transient simulation of the flow over a square prism and I want to create a monitor for the z-velocity at a particular point in the wake region (flow is in the +ve x direction). I am certain that this is to be done using 'surface monitor" in FLUENT but am not sure about the report type. Any help?

First you have to create a point in surface monitor terminal at which you want to track the velocity. It can be done as:
1. Go to surface monitor terminal,
2. Select from dropdown list: Create new point
3. Here you have to enter the name (your choice) and co-ordinates of the point.
4. Once you created this point, this will be available in the "surface" section of the terminal.
Now you can track velocity or other properties at that point.

Thanks Sanjeev. I am aware that it has to be done using 'Surface monitors' by creating a new point. But under 'surface monitor', there is a sub-menu 'report type" with options such as 'Integral', 'Area weighted average', 'vertex average', etc.. I am not sure about what report type is to be selected for monitoring flow field variable at a point.
It can be argued that for a point, all sub-types mean the same, at least approximately. I have also referred to the Fluent user guide for clarification on the sub-types. But I find that different subtypes produce a different time history
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks..
I am not very sure about it. But I think "Vertex Average" should give the desired value.
