where I (i, j) was the grayscale intensity of (i, j) pixel of image; x = 0, 1, …, (M – 1) was the horizontal offset; y = 0, 1, …, (N – 1) was the vertical offset (Bracewell, 1999). The autocorrelation function can be considered as a function of amount offset S (r), r = x + y:
