How can I change the line thickness and colour of mode shapes in ANSYS APDL? Can anybody tell me about this matter?
It might be possible that your question deals only with the way ANSYS APDL is plotting resuts, specially modeshapes. It is observed that the line which is shown in APDL is very thin and the colors aren't great too for a beam analysis.
If I am correct, then there are two ways to tackle this entire problem:
1) Use a GUI which isn't APDL's GUI. The data obtained from the solver can be listed out in txt files from ANSYS APDL and can be plotted in any other GUI such as paraview.
2) There is an option in APDL to make the background "white" and then save it as image. It would enhance the colors and the display of the modeshape would be better.
1.If you mean Link element, you can input the cross section area using : (COMMAND)
/PREP7
R
(MENU PATH)
Main Menu>Preprocessor>Real Constants>Add/Edit/Delete.
2. In case of Beam, you can use commands as Mr Claudio recommend
or using this path :
Main Menu>Preprocessor>Sections>Beam.

Thank you Mr. Mohit Gupta. I tried the second options that you suggested. It works. No need to change the background color. Any body can improve the display of modeshapes by following procedure:
PlotCtrls> Style> Colors> Numbered Items color.
Then perform modal analysis
After that save the picture by using this procedure:
PlotCtrls> Hard Copy> To file> Please check reverse video>ok
