The crosslinking density can be measured by simple absorption tests, where the swelling will increase due to crosslinking and will decrease when crosslinking is becoming too high, restricting the possibility of swelling. This will give a first hint on the degree of crosslinking. Based on the average molecular weight of an un-crosslinked polymer and the specific volume, you can make an estimation of the crosslinking density (inverse).

You must to measure the elastic modulus of hydrogel - E.
Then calculate the crosslinking density:
N (mole nodes per volume) = E/(3RT)
