I have been bit confused on assigning shearing velocity in FLAC for the direct shear test of rock joints.
For Example:
In my direct shear test experiment,
total shearing distance (say, a): 10 mm = 0.01 m
shearing rate applied (say, b): 0.10 mm/min = 0.0001 m/min
Time step applied in FLAC: 8000
So, I was confused whether the, velocity assigned would be; [a/8000]=[0.01/8000] or [b/8000]=[0.0001/8000] in FLAC?
Moreover, I was also concerned whether I can apply the real shearing rate i.e., 0.1mm/min as in my experiment in FLAC.

Thank you so much for your valuable advice. I will go as per your advice. Moreover, since I am a beginner in FLAC, I have used the grid size of 6 x 6 for my model (my real lab sample was: 120 x 120 x 60 mm). I wonder if it works.
I have given the timestep of the calculation as 8000, and have been using 1.25x10-6.
I have achieved similar results as per my experimental results. I was wondering, if I was going in the right direction. Because, on going through one literature, the authors have managed to compare their results to the experimental ones. The literature has been attached here with.
Could it be possible to have your guidance sir?

Dear Sumit,
The unit of command "xvel" in Flac is displacement/time step. The time step defined in Flac is not the real time, it is a step calculation. Absolutely, the [b/8000] is not valid, and you should use [a/8000]. However, there is a problem here that the velocity used may not give the desirable results as the direct shear results. Therefore, as Mahdi said, you should find an appropriate "xvel" value by trial and error to give good results.
