May I suggest using the prepGEM™ kit which I've used and achieved high-throughput DNA extraction excellent results. Ofcourse, that was what the kit have been formulated for, for animal tissue sample DNA extraction
I usually use GenElute Mammalian kit by Sigma-Aldrich, I think it is a good way to perform DNA extraction from blood of bird stored in ethanol. Before to start, I suggest you to wash blood with NaCl 0.9% and remove supernatant. After this step, take 5-10 mg of pellet from the bottom of the tube and follow the standard protocol
I generally use a mag bead based approach for my DNA extraction. I prefer doing a gentle lysis. Mainly because I need high MW DNA for denovo genome sequencing. This is for genomes using long read sequencing technologies like PacBio. If it's Illumina sequencing, then the DNAeasy kit works just fine.
