As Griffin (1978) states, "slow learners are students who learn more slowly than their peers, yet do not have a disability requiring special education". It seems that various factors may be responsible for such slow learning including lack of emotional growth, an insecure learning context, lack of opportunities for learning, absenteeism, large class sizes, and of course, inadequately designed teacher training programs. There are naturally several reasons behind such lack of tolerance. However, the most important is related to the fact that such teachers have not received any particular training on techniques of supporting slow learners. On this basis, teachers should identify the causes which negatively influence students' progress, and as you have stated, they should establish a strong rapport between themselves and such learners.Unless such training is not foreseen and included in teacher training programs, slow learners continue to dislike classes and learning.
