Kinesin-1 motors are highly processive, moving long distances on microtubule tracks without dissociating. By contrast, myosin II motors in skeletal muscle do not move processively; they take only one or a few steps before letting go. How are these different degrees of processivity adapted to the biological functions of kinesin-1 and myosin II?
