Parece que hay un consenso, entre la mayor parte de los expertos que estudian las relaciones entre la lengua y otros elementos de la cultura, de que la lengua refleja estos elementos pero, salvo contadas excepciones, no los determina. Las imágenes mentales tienen un papel importante, que suele ser subestimado. Hay más sobre esto en los textos señalados arriba.

I am an more historical working anthropologist, but when I read your question I rememberred the books from Zdenko Schubert von Soldern. Schubert von Soldern, Zdenko (1844-1922) was a arthistorian, architect and architectural theorist. I´m not sure, if you can get any tranlations of hie books, but I give you the german titels:

- Geschichte der Ornamentik und Plastik. Das Stilisieren von Naturformen, Zürich 1896.

- Natur, Mode und Kunst, Zürich 1912.

Maybe also interesting might be Adolf Loos (1870-1933). He was an Austrian architect, architecture critic and cultural journalist. He is considered one of the pioneers of modern architecture. I would recommend these two books based on his diaries to you:

- Ins Leere gesprochen. 1897-1900, Reprint Wien 1981.

- Trotzdem. 1900-1930, Reprint Wien 1982.
