Exposure to loud sound can cause noise-induced hearing loss, affecting the hearing threshold. We usually talk about temporary threshold shift (TTS) in laboratory animals if the hearing threshold returns to pre-exposure levels in less than 15 days, and about permanent threshold shifts (PTS) if it does not. This is kind of straightforward in case of a one-time sound exposure. But what about in case of repeated moderate noise exposure? Should we measure the hearing threshold 15 days after the LAST noise-exposure? And considering it PTS if it was not recovered and TTS if it was?
